Wine Bars in Houston:

What is it about wine that gives it such a cult-like following? Only the true wine lover can answer that question. If you're a wine fanatic don't worry, there are wine bars in Houston to suit every taste, from sexy and sophisticated to casual and fun.

If you're looking for more than just a glass of wine then try Cova Hand-Selected Wines on Washington Avenue. They have a unique food menu including steak, duck, shrimp, tuna and salads along with the traditional cheese plate. Cova offeres "wine flights," wine classes, private parties and a happy hour with $5 glasses of wine.

Max's Wine Dive, also on Washington Avenue, is great for a first date. It's trendy yet fun and relaxed, and anything but a dive. They serve delicious "gourmet comfort food" along with a good selection of wines. Their motto "Fried Chicken and Champagne. Why Not?" says it all. And if your date goes well (and if it will go well anywhere then it certainly will at Max's) then there are many trendy bars and clubs nearby where you can continue the evening.

Another good wine bar on Washington Avenue is The Corkscrew. They serve pizzas and panini's and have specials and events every night. The most popular weeknights are Monday night when they have an acoustic music showcase and karaoke Thursday's. On Sunday's you can get a bottle of champagne and a pizza for only $22! The Corkscrew is a great place to throw a party since they have three private rooms available and can make truffle or cheese trays for your party.

If you don't want to go to busy Washington Avenue then try Vintage 46 in the Upper Kirby area. You can enjoy a sophisticated wine selection in a relaxed atmosphere that feels more like a home than a trendy wine bar. They don't have a full menu, but their cheese plates and chocolate fondue are divine. And best of all you can relax on their large patio and enjoy a sunny afternoon or crisp fall evening with your favorite wine. They offer classes and wine tastings on Saturdays that are always a lot of fun.
