Upper Kirby Nightlife offers sports bars, pubs, cozy wine bars, lounges, and live music venues.

You won't find too many flashy nightclubs or dance clubs here, but who needs them anyway? Sometimes a comfortable atmosphere and a pint or cocktail with friends is in order. If you're in the mood to dance Vintage Lounge is your only real option. They have DJs spinning on the weekends after 11pm. They have a huge back patio which is perfect for a party or just to get some fresh air when the dance floor gets too crowded.

Upper Kirby Nightlife has several neighborhood bars like Mugsy's, Mezzanine, and Stag's Head Pub where you can visit with friends over a cheap drink and enjoy their patio or a game of pool.

There are several wine bars on Upper Kirby including Sonoma, The Tasting Room, and Vintage 46. McGonigel'S Mucky Duck also has a wine room with a great selection, but is most well known for its live music acts including Irish, folk, country and blues artists. They have "Open Mic Night" on Monday's and an "Irish Jam Session" on Wednesdays that both draw a large crowd. They have both local and national acts throughout the week.

Goode's Armadillo Palace is another great live music venue on Upper Kirby. They feature local country music artists throughout the week and serve delicious home-style country cooking.

Some of Upper Kirby's Best Bars, Pubs and Lounges:

Downing Street is a cigar bar and pub with a large selection of cigars in the walk-in humidor, delicious food and a nice wine and scotch menu. This is a classy bar and a great place to bring a date or client.

Goode's Armadillo Palace has live country music, texas style cooking, and full bar. Play their bar games; shuffleboard, pool, darts, and dominoes. Look for the giant armadillo in front.

Mezzanine Lounge is the official Dynamo sports bar. Watch a game, play trivia, sing karaoke, reserve the private room for Xbox, spin the shot wheel, or just enjoy the food, drinks and a game of pool.

Mucky Duck is one of the best local live music venues. The age restriction of 21 years is strictly enforced and the food and beer selection are top notch. Try Guinness Stew or Shepherd's Pie.

Velvet Melvin Pub is a casual pub with terrific happy hour drink specials and fun events like trivia. They have a shot wheel and regular liquor sponsors that are often present with free shots.

Vintage 46 is a fun wine bar in the Rice Village/Upper Kirby area. They have neat events and parties, live music on the weekends, a relaxed atmosphere, and a delicious menu that will have wine-lovers coming back for more.

Vintage Lounge is a bar and dance club that draws a crowd in their mid 20's to early 30's. They have 2 large patios, cabanas and a VIP room for private parties, and live music or DJs every night.

All About Upper Kirby in Houston

Upper Kirby is a section of town that has been a work in progress for years. It is constantly under construction, as they are always trying to enhance the beauty of the area. Upper Kirby is surrounded by the beautiful homes of River Oaks, but caters to all who come here.

Right now there is a lot of construction around the new high rises on Kirby Drive and Westheimer Road. Houston is a large city and grows more each year. Kirby tends to this need with their new high rises that have wonderful shops and bars underneath. This section of town attracts young professionals as well as long time Houston residents.

There are some great places to go out at night on Upper Kirby; such as Downing Street (which is the only Cigar Bar in Houston) as well as Taco Milagro (a hot spot for happy hour cocktails).

Though the nightlife is good on Upper Kirby the shopping is even better. Upper Kirby has a Barnes and Noble, Whole Foods Market and a Bed Bath and Beyond. You can do all of your Sunday shopping without having to drive clear across town from place to place.

Upper Kirby is the place to go for your shopping needs as well as your lunching needs. Just beware that there is constant construction so during rush hour (Monday-Friday 3 pm – 7 pm) expect traffic. Other than the traffic Upper Kirby is a great area of town that is constantly being improved.
