Sugar Land Bars and Clubs

Sugar Land Bars, Clubs, Pubs, and Lounges:

While most of the action is still in Midtown and most recently the Washington Corridor there are still places to go out to for those of us that live outside the loop or even the beltway. Sugar Land may not be the next hot spot, but it does have its fair share of places to wine and dine at without the crowds and parking of Houston. This makes Sugar Land a convenient and great alternative to driving into town for a night out.

Sugar Land is known mostly for being a great place to raise a family; having good schools, scenic parks and the like. However recently there has been an influx of new restaurants and bars for those of us that live here. Most of the action focuses around Town Center that lies directly on Hwy 6. You can easily park in one of the free garages and simply walk around stopping by any of the venues available like Japaneiros, a Latin/Sushi fusion restaurant or the well known Baker Street Pub. If eating is your thing you have many choices; Mexican at Escalantes, Sushi at Blue Fish, Tapas at Mi Luna, Steaks at Perry's and more at over 20 different restaurants in and around Town Square. Many of the restaurants have patio seating making it great for people watching. A favorite spot is Kona Grill for their reverse happy hour in the bar with specials on food and drinks after 9pm.

Aside from all of the great places to fill your stomach there are also several great bars to have a drink and socialize. Loggia is a newer sports bar by day and lounge by night that attracts a good crowd on weekends with a DJ and big screen TV's. It is the closest thing you are going to get to a lounge or dance club atmosphere in Sugar Land. Loggia has good music, reserved seating, etc. The other main bar is Baker St. Pub that has been here for years and still gets a decent crowd even with the all the recent competition. Baker St. Pub has happy hour every day and a cover band on the weekends, although the latter may get tiresome. If you want something a bit more low key, there is 3 Olives that serves up great drinks with over 70 handmade martinis. If you want something even quieter then try Vineyard on the Square, a wine lounge that offers tastings and a wide selection of wines by the bottle or glass. Oh and in Sugar Land bars you can smoke inside, which may be a bonus for some but not for others.

There is definitely a nightlife here, (albeit a small one), as weekends are very busy for many of the areas bars and restaurants. The great thing is that you have everything in one central location and you can easily hit up a couple of happy hours, have dinner and then bar hop without having to get back into your car. However, Town Square is home to more than just restaurants and bars, City Hall is located in the center with a large plaza that provides a venue for live concerts ranging from Jazz to Salsa. You can even take Salsa lessons in the plaza (that's when the happy hour comes in handy). The Marriott Hotel located across from the plaza offers visitors a convenient place to stay with all the amenities available to them. Of course, there is also shopping both at the mall and the many surrounding shops luring you to spend even more money.

So maybe we don't have the sheer amount of bars like Washington Avenue or some of the ultra trendy lounges and clubs of Midtown and Downtown. What we do have is convenience, variety, and our fair share of hot spots. I can't complain when I can drive less than ten minutes, not have to worry about getting towed, paying cover or waiting in line just to have a good time. Sugar Land offers plenty for those of us that live here, and who knows, maybe one day it will offer enough for some that do not as well.

New to Houston?

If you're new to Houston you may be wondering what the nightlife is like. There really is no way to describe it in just a few summary paragraphs. Each neighborhood is unique and each venue has it's own flare.

I recommend that you start by reading over the general profile of the neighborhoods. There's sure to be something to fit your taste.

The most popular are Midtown, Washington Avenue, and Montrose.
