Rice Village Nightlife

"Lots of great bars in a few small blocks."

rice-village-houston, rice-village-bars

Rice Village Nightlife is popular among young professional's, especially for weeknight happy hours, because there is a variety of nice restaurants, bars, and a few dance clubs within about 5 square blocks.

Rice Village is so-named because it is a shopping and entertainment district half a mile West of Rice University. You can find a variety of people in Rice Village milling around from bar to bar. It's a great area for socializing in a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. One big advantage is that there are several bars practically next door to each other so if you want to do some bar hopping you can simply walk from one place to the next.

Rice Village Nightlife attracts a younger crowd of mixed ethnicity, with the exception of Bronx Bar which is known to have racially discriminatory door policies. Bronx Bar has recently been a matter of heated debate. Just next door is Brian O'Neill's, which has an ethnically mixed crowd on any given night and is all-around the better option.

Most of the venues in Rice Village are unpretentious and truly a lot of fun and there is almost never a cover charge.

All About Rice Village in Houston

The Basics

Rice Village is located in the center of West University on Kirby Drive, just south of highway 59. "The Village" as everybody calls it has so many different things to do and see that you can spend the whole day there and never go to the same place twice. They have boutiques, bars, restaurants and salons. When at the Village you can find anything you need.

The Village is located right next to Rice University. When school is in session you can find The Village's Morningside Drive (the street with all the bars) a buzz with students on the weekends.

Rice Village nightlife is wonderful and known throughout Houston. They have some of the most popular places in Houston such as Brian O'Neill's, The Ginger Man, and Little Woodrow's.

All of the places along the Morningside strip have wonderful patios to sit on and enjoy a cocktail after work or after a long day of shopping.

In Rice Village you can dine at some of the best restaurants in Houston.

  • Two Rows; a restaurant where they make their own beer. Try a Wednesday night when their homemade beer is only $1.
  • Baker's Street and Buffalo Wild Wings have full menus as well as a full bar and they are both open late which is good for that late night hunger.
  • If you are up early try Le Peep. They have the best breakfast in the Village.
  • Kubos is a great sushi place.
  • or go to Jason's Deli or La Madeline if you want to stick to something familiar.

The food in The Village is just wonderful and there is something for everybody.

Rice Village has some of the best shopping in Houston. They have all the popular shops such as Victoria Secret, Express, Banana Republic, and Urban Outfitters.

As well as housing the popular chain stores Rice Village has many small shops that are owned by local Houstonians. I love to support the community and when shopping in the Village you can surely do that. The Village has my favorite store Lot 8 which is owned by Chloe Dao of Project Runway.

When at the Village you can just park and walk from shop to shop, but beware of no parking zones because they really do tow here. There is a parking lot that tends to fill up quickly as well as an attached parking garage. The parking garage costs about five to ten dollars a day, but most businesses will validate your parking ticket so that it is free. Just ask.

Rice Village has everything you need. Great food, great cocktails and great shopping...what more could you want?

I recommend that you start by reading over the general profile of the neighborhoods. There's sure to be something to fit your taste.

The most popular are Midtown, Washington Avenue, and Montrose.
