Houston Heights Bars"Eclectic neighborhood bars and live music."
Houston Heights Bars are gaining popularity, although Washington Avenue is clearly considered the hotspot by the vast majority of Houstonians, it is relatively new, and therefore lacks history. However, the Heights has a rich history in abundance. Having adopted somewhat of an Austin-like neighbor motto, the Heights has definitely done well with "Keeping It Eclectic." Once considered a Houston Suburb, this Northwest Central Houston neighborhood is a colorful place to live and play. From bungalows and boutiques to the bar scene, the Heights is different from any other Houston area district. The people are more laid back and casual, and the lifestyle of its residents seems healthier and more natural. Housing young professionals and retired hippies alike, the Heights neighborhood has grown tremendously in the last four decades. When it comes to bars and lounges, there are handfuls of hidden dive bars as well as exclusive fine dining establishments which require reservations. The Heights is the home of several notable restaurants including The Glass Wall and Shade. Craving late night Mexican food? You can also find the famous restaurant, Spanish Flowers, open after a night out. Dan Electro's Guitar Bar on East 24th Street is an absolute must see bar and music venue featuring rock and blues musicians and cool people from all walks of life. Onion Creek on White Oak is a bar and eatery with delicious food, lots of beers and killer mimosas. The Creek Group's chain of 3 like cafes; Cedar Creek, Onion Creek, and Dry Creek is always hoppin.' There are tons of other fun paces to choose from when you want to have a drink with friends like The Usual, Heights Sports Lounge and Sixth Street Bar and Grill. Overall, the Heights is a great place to raise a family. It is quiet enough to not feel overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of "big city" nightlife. However, it is filled with unique people and artists, one-of-a-kind bars and huge, historic homes. Written for HNS by Some of The Best Houston Heights Bars, Pubs and Lounges:Cedar Creek Cafe Bar and Grill in heights has a country atmosphere to relax with food and drink, patio bar and backyard with trees and creek, fire pit for winter, misters for summer, and colored lights all year. Onion Creek is a unique Houston bar with a "Keep Austin Weird" vibe. Their large patio makes it the perfect Sunday Funday hang-out. Shady Tavern is an icehouse and outdoor retreat in the Heights. Bring your dog and your own food to grill. They have pool tables, cornhole, washers, grills, Wi-Fi, and liquor set ups. The Usual Pub is anything but the typical Washington Avenue Bar. This casual pub in the Heights offers a large patio and beer selction, friendly staff and fun weekly events. All About The Heights in HoustonThe Heights is a small section of Houston that still has that small town feeling. Here people strive to keep it a safe and clean place to live. The Heights is an older section of town so there is a great sense of community a number of businesses here are owned by Heights residents. You can shop, eat, and even take a nice jog down the Heights Blvd. jogging path. The shopping in The Heights is truly unique. On 19th street you can shop in a cluster of boutiques that will make any girls head spin. Content is a wonderful boutique that has the latest fashions and jewelry that you cannot find anywhere else. There are also several thrift stores that are great for that unique vintage find. Other than clothes the Heights has several other kinds of shops such as home decor and art boutiques. All down Heights Boulevard you can find great antique shops that make for a great Sunday afternoon shopping spree. The art in the Heights is known all around Houston. Every first Saturday night of the month the Heights has their art night on 19th street. First Saturday Art Mart is a wonderful event where artists and musicians can showcase their talents as they build a sense of community. I encourage everybody to come to this at least once as it is a great time. The Heights is known for its' beautiful homes. Most of the homes in the Heights are older but well kept. The older homes here intermingle with new homes that range from $300,000 to a million dollar value. Lights in The Heights is a Christmas festival that showcases these beautiful homes and their Christmas decorations. People come from all over to see these beautiful homes. Other than the beautiful homes and great shopping The Heights has great food. Dry Creek is one of my favorite places to eat at. They have a coffee and juice bar as well as a full menu with the most delicious food. The Creek does not have liquor but you can bring your own wine and beer here so it makes for a great time. Here in the Heights you feel as if you are not even in Houston anymore but a small town where everybody is your friend. Written for HNS by Alexandra Kuchik
