Houston, do we have a problem? You bet we do! The problem is figuring out which bar to go to first.

Houston Nightlife Scene is here to cut out all the exagerated reviews, sales pitches, and irrelevant complaints and junk that people post on unfiltered review sites like Yelp and Citysearch and get down to the nitty gritty of what these bars are like.

I am in the process of cataloging every bar in Houston. Wish me luck!

Alphabetical List of Houston Bars

Absinthe Brasserie has an intimate, relaxed atmosphere that tends toward the dark and mysterious. They have specialty pizzas, paninis, appetizers, and quesadillas. And most importantly, of course, they have several types of Absinthe and 6 Absinthe cocktails on their menu.

Baker Street Pub is a British pub in Rice Village with live music on the weekends, good food, and an extensive happy hour including all day Sunday. The staff is experienced and friendly.

Block 7 is a casual wine bar near Washington Avenue that offers wine education and a 35 foot tasting bar. Their prices are reasonable.

Branch Water Tavern is a dimly lit and luxurious restaurant and bar near Washington Avenue with comfy leather couches and a gourmet menu.

Brian O'Neill's is an Irish Pub in the heart of Rice Village. It is packed and full of energy on the weekends and a great place to relax and enjoy great drink specials on a weekday.

Buffalo Wild Wings is the place to watch your favorite sports. They have 6 huge projectors plus smaller TVs. Watch for parties and drink specials on game days.

B.U.S. Bar is downtown directly across from Minute Maid Park and the place to be before and after an Astros game. They have pool tables, darts, and big screen TVs.

Capone's Bar and Grill is a 1920's style lounge in the Galleria area with a variety of delicious food, unique cocktails, and live music or a DJ on most nights.

Catbirds is a unique and down to earth bar that has been around for years. It's popular with NTN trivia players, and plays jazz and blues music. Enjoy a drink with friends on their patio.

Cedar Creek Cafe Bar & Grill in heights has a country atmosphere to relax with food and drink, patio bar and backyard with trees and creek, fire pit for winter, misters for summer, and colored lights all year.

Christian's Tailgate Bar and Grill in Midtown is known for mouth-watering burgers, cheap beer specials, and as a great place to watch your favorite sports.

Corkscrew Wine Bar on Washington Avenue has one of the best wine selections in Houston with over 250 wines available by the glass. They offer home-made truffles, appetizers, steak night, and other great events.

Cova is a unique wine bar in a wine store on Washington Avenue with over 1,000 wines. Try their wine flight! Cova serves award winning food and has great specials on various nights of the week.

Downing Street is a cigar bar and pub with a large selection of cigars in the walk-in humidor, delicious food and a nice wine and scotch menu. This is a classy bar and a great place to bring a date or client.

Dubliner is the only Irish pub on Washington Avenue. They have a large, secluded patio that is great for groups; an internet jukebox with a huge selection; friendly staff; and daily industry specials.

Eighteen Twenty Lounge is a martini lounge located downtown next to Minute Maid Park. They have Pac Man Fever nights where they open their doors to the Joysticks game store next door and you can play the games.

Ernie's on Banks is a two story sports bar in Montrose with a touch of class. Come here for great food, bar games, and friendly service. The bar is decorated with a Chicago Cubs theme.

Etro Lounge plays 80's music but has a newer look. They play movies and Atari on the big screen. It has 2 floors, a patio, dance floor, relaxed atmosphere, no line, no cover, and no attitude.

Ginger Man Pub in Rice Village serves a large selection of beer and great beer combinations. They have terrific service and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. There are 2 patios for you to enjoy a beer on.

Harp is a local tradition. This home turned bar in the Montrose area has a cozy feeling and a staff that will truly make it your second home. Their large back patio is a big bonus.

Goode's Armadillo Palace has live country music, texas style cooking, and full bar. Play their bar games; shuffleboard, pool, darts, and dominoes. Look for the giant armadillo in front.

Hans' Bierhaus is a beer and wine garden situated around a restored house in Rice Village. People watch from the sidewalk cafe or play on their and bocce court (lawn bowling).

Howl at the Moon is a midtown dueling piano bar that is perfect for birthdays and bachelorette parties or just having a good laugh anytime. Crowd participation is a large part of the fun!

Kelvin Arms is Houston's only Scottish Pub. Their lounge area is in an old bank vault. They offer pinball, poker tournaments, trivia, Wii nights, and great drink specials.

Kenneally's Irish Pub has been in Montrose for 20+ years. They stick to their traditions with great food, beer, friendly service, and the best St. Patrick's Day party in Houston.

Lola's Depot is perhaps the best dive bar in Houston, and it is truly a dive. It has a unique atmosphere. You will just have to visit it and see. Happy hour from 5-7pm and 9-11pm with $1.75 wells.

Lounge at Benjys is a classy upstairs bar and patio that overlooks Rice Village. They have specialty martinis with fresh ingredients and an appetizer menu. It's a great place for a date.

Maple Leaf Pub is a Canadian themed pub in Midtown with hockey and other sport packages. They offer steak night, darts, free WiFi, and bubble hockey. You will be treated like family here.

Marfreless is an unmarked bar in the Montrose/River Oaks area that is known as a couples hang-out due to its romantic atmosphere and cozy couches. Do not be surprised to see smooching couples and anxious first dates.

Max's Wine Dive serves fine wines and home-style comfort foods turned gourmet. This is one of the most fun wine bars in Houston. Max's is relaxed like a dive bar, but don't let the name fool you; it's no dive. This is actually a very trendy and popular bar on the busy Washington Avenue strip.

Mezzanine Lounge is the official Dynamo sports bar. Watch a game, play trivia, sing karaoke, reserve the private room for Xbox, spin the shot wheel, or just enjoy the food, drinks and a game of pool.

Mucky Duck is one of the best local live music venues. The age restriction of 21 years is strictly enforced and the food and beer selection are top notch. Try Guinness Stew or Shepherd's Pie.

Next Door is dive bar in Montrose with cozy couches and a laid-back, dark and artsy atmosphere. This is the perfect place to grab a last call drink or to visit after a show at Rudyard's Pub.

Onion Creek is a unique Houston Heights bar with a "Keep Austin Weird" vibe. Their large patio makes it the perfect Sunday Funday hang-out.

Pearl Bar on Washington Avenue has a sexy lounge inside with great DJs and a large patio. Don't miss out on beer pong.

Poison Girl is a quirky little dive bar. The patio has a backyard feel with (oddly) a Cabbage Patch Doll statue hiding in the bushes. They have pinball machines and $3 Jager all the time.

Rebels Honky Tonk is the newest country bar on Washington Avenue. Everything is Texas sized from the chairs to the dance floor. The bartenders are knock-outs in their cut off jean shorts and boots.

Red Lion Pub is a British style pub in the River Oaks/Montrose area. It has a British atmosphere with a cozy fireplace, red leather upholstery, darts, patio, traditional British food, and imported English beers.

Saint Dane's Sports Bar and Grill in Midtown has the open feel of a garage and plenty of plasmas to enjoy the all-sports packages on. The drink specials are amazing and reason enough to visit this bar.

Sawyer Park is a trendy new sports bar on the Washington Avenue strip in the Houston Heights. They offer nightly events including karaoke, bingo, live music, DJs, and BBQ and snow cones on Sunday.

Shady Tavern is an icehouse and outdoor retreat in the Heights. Bring your dog and your own food to grill. They have pool tables, cornhole, washers, grills, Wi-Fi, and liquor set ups.

Shot Bar in Midtown has 120 shots on their menu, provides a "shot wheel" where you can try your luck, draws a big crowd, and plays good beats.

Taps House of Beer is Washington Avenue's ultimate beer and sports bar. There's 100 beers on tap, 100 ounce pitchers, and a large patio with bocce ball.

Tavern on Gray in Montrose has lots of entertainment; pool, foosball, air hockey, ping pong, beer pong, trivia, and bar top video games. They also have the longest bar in Texas and attractive bartenders.

The Usual Pub is anything but the typical Washington Avenue Bar. This casual pub in the Heights offers a large patio and beer selction, friendly staff and fun weekly events.

Tipsy Clover is midtown's only Irish bar. They have terrific happy hour specials and great patio parties. Visit on "Tipsy Tuesday" for the best drink specials. Be sure to try the Buck Shot!

Two Rows is a microbrewery that serves its own beer, plus wine and liquor. They also serve delicious food on their patio overlooking Rice Village. Come by on Wednesday for $1 beers.

Under the Volcano is a bar with a theme of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead, the Mexican holiday). Serves cocktails with fresh ingredients and gourmet food and coffee. Occasional live music. This is one of the most unique Houston bars.

Union Bar is a "party bar" in Midtown- something like a sports bar that turns into a dance club later in the night. They serve food and have a few "stripper poles" for drunken patrons to dance on. Nice combo!

Velvet Melvin Pub is a casual pub with terrific happy hour drink specials and fun events like trivia. They have a shot wheel and regular liquor sponsors that are often present with free shots.

Vintage 46 is a fun wine bar in the Rice Village/Upper Kirby area. They have neat events and parties, live music on the weekends, a relaxed atmosphere, and a delicious menu that will have wine-lovers coming back for more.

Vintage Lounge is a bar and dance club that draws a crowd in their mid 20's to early 30's. They have 2 large patios, cabanas and a VIP room for private parties, and live music or DJs every night.

Washington Avenue Drinkery is a new bar by the owners of Corskscrew with a unique interior, live bands on some weeknights, and only Texas beers on tap. Try their famous WAD shooters.
