BUS Bar - Houston

"A place to celebrate even if the Astros are not."

BUS Bar in Houston gets packed before games, perhaps people just want to have a good time before they enter the stadium and see their beloved Astros botch another game. Lets face it, if you're an Astros fan then you are probably used to disappointment.

Either way the BUS Bar is the place to be before the Astros game as it's directly across from the stadium. And when I say the place to be I mean this place gets packed. After all it's the closest bar to get a semi-cheap beer before entering the stadium where you're forced to pay $8 for a beer (or whatever it is). The place has two large bars serving and beer girls at strategic places to help you avoid the lines, although the beers from the pretty ladies at the tubs may cost a little more for the convenience.

I have to be honest I am not a huge baseball fan, but I am a huge Houston fan. Which means I support all of our local teams and while I may not be able to watch the Astros play on TV I do like going to the games. The BUS Bar Downtown is the perfect place to hang out before the game, get some drinks and just people watch. It's the energy of the people and the pre game excitement that makes this place. Because if it wasn't next to the stadium it would just be another sports bar with old stuff hanging from the walls and cold beer.

They do have pool tables and darts but I usually don't see too many people playing them for whatever reason. The bar also has several big screen TVs, but I can tell you this, once the game starts the place for the most part clears out and you're left with a few people at the bar watching the game.

One other plus is that sometimes the beer or alcohol vendors come by and buy people free drinks and shots. So if you are lucky you can get hammered before the game and spend even less. I have only been here for a game so there was no happy hour at the time but they do have specials during the day.

The BUS Bar is one of those places that has their niche and it works, a relaxed bar with lots of space for people to mill around and talk or just people watch as they come and go. It may not be glamorous or fancy but what they do they do well; offer cold beer and drinks and easy accessibility to the game. Even if you are not a huge Astros fan you will feel like you are with the energy and excitement in the air at this place.
